The people at the grassroots level are at the receiving end of the economic downturn. They do not have enough to feed and take care of themselves, neither do they have enough to take proper care of themselves when they fall sick. This is because the hospital bills are on the rise. In lieu of this, I envisaged that it was possible for me to champion the elimination and prevention of dreadful diseases among the indigents, downtrodden and less privileged, and the reduce hospital visitations by them through right information on prevention from those diseases. My approach to this project which i tagged “Get informed; Get healthy” is by using what I named IEC FORMULA (Information, Education and Communication) through audio-visual means. The strategy employed is to inform, educate and engage in an effective communication with the targeted audience via radio, TV programs and other social media platforms, public health lectures and medical outreaches. My work focuses on the grassroots because according to my findings, people in the rural areas, the non-elites, illiterates, downtrodden and so on do not have access to adequate healthcare information which is one of the major threat to global health. With the radio and TV programs dedicated to the project, the public both young and old had gained a lot by getting reliable and credible information from the featured health professional. The strategy also serves as a medium of free consultation with the doctors and healthcare providers through the media programs.
How does the Company Initiative/Career/Business improve people’s life, impact, affordability and reliability?
With these strategies and approach of my initiative, the populace and audience have benefited as follows: 1. That It’s cheaper to prevent sicknesses and diseases than to have hospital care when they’re down and infected. 2. The kinds of foods, fruits and lifestyle that promote health. 3. The importance of constant medical checkups to forestall the fast growth of diseases that might be fatal. 4. The importance of a healthy lifestyle. 5. Access to free medical consultation and diagnosis from qualified professional 6. Free healthcare screening and diagnosis through medical outreaches My community health advocacy serve as a call to action to all healthcare stakeholders and had also gained the supports and partnership of notable stakeholders in the health sector, such as Nigeria Medical Association, Oyo State, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy, Hematology and Blood Transfusion Scientists Society of Nigeria, Oyo State Ministry of Health, Oyo State Primary Health Care Development Agency among other. Several stakeholders have subscribed to my programmes through regular partnership to conduct free medical outreaches, featuring on my Radio and TV health awareness programmes and public health lectures.
How can this service product or solution be expanded to new markets or areas in Africa?
I have a plan and strategy to expand this work to other part of Africa to serve the same purpose. I believe that adequate information plays a germane role in community wellness. This is what is missing between the sources of health information and the people of the grassroot. The above will be achieved by creating an indigenous content and community engaged health activities.
